This modernist family home in Surrey was transformed through a comprehensive interior design and architectural remodelling project, carefully tailored to the needs of contemporary family living. Working closely with the clients, Timothy James Interiors reconfigured the layout to create a more open, connected environment, improving both flow and functionality throughout the home.
The interior design approach focused on balancing clean, modern aesthetics with warmth and practicality, incorporating bespoke joinery, carefully considered lighting and high-quality materials. Each space was thoughtfully designed to enhance everyday living, from open-plan kitchen and dining areas to more intimate, private rooms. The result is a cohesive and refined scheme that reflects the lifestyle and aspirations of the homeowners while making the most of this Surrey home.
Transforming a Surrey home into a spacious, light-filled open-plan interior
Our approach to the interior design was to remove the existing internal walls, relocate the central stairwell and extend the property at the rear, creating a spacious open-plan living environment suited to modern family life.
To maximise the impact on entering the Surrey home, we designed the layout to offer an uninterrupted view from the front door through to the garden, enhancing both light and a sense of space.
Working closely with the architect, structural engineer and building control, Timothy James Interiors delivered a fully coordinated interior design service in Surrey, managing every stage of the project from initial concept through to completion.
A contemporary Surrey home designed for modern family living
As part of the interior design scheme, we incorporated a contemporary wall-mounted wood burning stove into the dining area, complete with an external flue and integrated log store. Opening out onto the garden, this space was designed to be both functional and inviting, ideal for everyday family living as well as entertaining.
The staircase was conceived as a refined yet understated feature, with integrated LED lighting enhancing its clean lines and architectural presence, while also concealing a cleverly designed cloakroom beneath.
Bespoke joinery played a key role in the overall interior design, with hallway cupboards featuring asymmetrical niches in contrasting colours, backlit with LED strips to create a striking focal point within the Surrey home. In the kitchen, three slot windows introduce natural light while adding a strong architectural rhythm to the space.
